HOW TO MAKE AIR FRIED BLACKENED SALMON TOSTADAS
Follow this easy guide to this salmon recipe:
Pickle the onions
Slice the red onion thinly. Make a quick brine with the water, vinegar, sugar and salt. Submerge the onion slices in the brine and let them sit for 20 minutes.
Prepare the salmon
Add the salmon to a bowl and toss it in the olive oil and blackened spice blend.
Air fry the salmon
Cook your salmon in the sprayed basket for 8-10 minutes at 400F until cooked.

Make the mayonnaise
In a small bowl, combine: Mayo, lime juice, and hot sauce. Set this aside.
Build the tostadas
Spread a layer of avocado mash on each tostada shell and season it with salt. Top the avocado with the air fryer salmon bites, some pickled onions, spicy mayo and cilantro. Serve your Air Fried Blackened Salmon while fresh and crisp.
SUBSTITUTIONS AND VARIATIONS
These are a few ingredient swaps and variations I’ve tried when making this Air Fried Blackened Salmon Tostadas:
- Salmon swaps: Make this recipe with shrimp, cod or tofu instead of salmon.
- Tostada shells: Try making your Air Fried Blackened Salmon recipe with soft corn shell tortillas or even tortilla chips.
- Avocado: Use a guacamole or even a little sour cream for the base.
- Mayo: Try making this with Greek yogurt or vegan mayo.
STORAGE AND MAKE AHEAD
It’s best to make up your Air Fried Blackened Salmon just before serving them, but you can prep ahead, too.
The pickled onions can be made up to a week in advance and stored in the fridge. My spicy mayo will keep for 3 – 4 days in an airtight container.
If you cook your salmon ahead, it can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 2 days before reheating in your air fryer.
I like to keep my tostada shells in an airtight container so they stay dry and crunchy.
SERVING AND PAIRING
These Air Fried Blackened Salmon tostadas are great as a fun main dish for lunch or dinner. They go beautifully with a crisp side salad, my Air Fried Elote or a bean and mango salsa.
TIPS AND PROBLEM-SOLVING
I love sharing my kitchen tips and tricks to make cooking a little easier. Here are a few tips for getting great results with this Air Fried Blackened Salmon recipe:
- Cooking the salmon just right: It’s important to keep an eye on your salmon. If it’s the first time you’re making this, I suggest you check in on the salmon at around 7 minutes.
- Are your tostadas soggy? For crispy tostadas, I suggest assembling them just before serving them. Also, watch out not to overload them with avo or mayo.
- Too hot? Dial back on the amount of spice you add to your salmon. You can also add a little honey or extra lime juice to balance them.
- Oven cooking: If you don’t have an air fryer, bake the salmon at 425F for 12-14 minutes instead. It’ll be just as good!
