This Philly cheesesteak ground beef recipe is my go-to when I want all the yummy, cozy and homey flavors of a classic cheesesteak without the fuss. It’s hearty, cheesy and packed with savory goodness. As a mom to a busy toddler, I need meals that are quick, filling and don’t leave me juggling ten different pots while someone’s asking for snacks every five minutes.

This comes together easily, uses simple ingredients I usually have on hand, and keeps everyone happy at the table. I love that I can prep components ahead of time or cook them all in one go without overthinking it. The crispy potatoes make it feel like comfort food, the cheesy beef is always a win and I can sneak in those peppers and onions without any complaints.

INGREDIENTS

For the Steak & Veggies

  • Ground beef: I love this as the base of this flavorful Philly cheesesteak ground beef recipe
  • Olive oil: Helps saute and build flavor
  • Green bell pepper: This adds sweetness and texture
  • Yellow onion: Caramelizes for that classic cheesesteak taste
  • Garlic: I can’t skip it!
  • Worcestershire sauce: I love that this adds so much richness
  • Provolone cheese: This melts into that signature cheesy finish

For the Roasted Potatoes

HOW TO MAKE PHILLY CHEESESTEAK BOWLS

Roast the potatoes: Toss potatoes with oil and seasoning, spread onto a tray and roast until golden and crispy, flipping halfway through.

Cook the veggies: Saute the peppers and onions until soft and slightly caramelized, then add garlic and cook briefly before setting aside.

Brown the beef: In the same pan, cook the Philly cheesesteak ground beef, breaking it up as it browns. Season and stir in Worcestershire sauce.

Combine and melt: Add the veggies back in, mix well, then top with provolone and cover until melted and gooey.

Make the sauce: Whisk together all sauce ingredients until smooth.

Assemble the bowls: Add roasted potatoes, top with the cheesy beef mixture, and drizzle with sauce to finish your Philly cheesesteak bowls.

Can I make this low-carb?
Swap potatoes for cauliflower or serve the Philly cheesesteak ground beef over lettuce or greens.

What other cheeses can I use?
Mozzarella, white cheddar, or even a cheese sauce can work if you don’t have provolone.

Absolutely, mushrooms are a classic addition to any Philly cheesesteak bowls variation.

How can I make it spicy?
Add chili flakes, jalapenos or hot sauce to the beef or drizzle over the top.
