Bacon and Fig Jam Puff Pastry Christmas Tree
Bacon and Fig Jam Puff Pastry Christmas Tree
Course: Appetizer, Dessert
Ingredients:
2 sheets puff pastry
1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
1 cup fig jam
8 strips of bacon, cooked
8 wooden skewers
8 cranberries, for garnish
Powdered sugar, for garnish
Instructions:
Preheat your oven according to the instructions on the puff pastry package (mine was 400 degrees Fahrenheit).
In a medium-sized bowl, combine fig jam and bacon.
Unfold one sheet of puff pastry on a clean work surface.
Spread the bacon and jam mixture evenly on top of the puff pastry sheet.
Gently place the second puff pastry sheet on top.
Using a pizza roller, slice puff pastry into long 1 inch wide strips.
Use your hands to roll up the dough accordion style - it will look like a tree, wider on the base and smaller on the top.
Put a wooden skewer through each tree then at the top of the tree, thread on a cranberry - this will be your star. Then place on baking sheet.
Brush the trees with melted butter, ensuring to cover the entire surface.
Bake in the preheated oven according to the puff pastry package instructions (about 15-20 minutes) or until the trees are golden brown and puffed.
Allow the puff pastry trees to cool slightly before dusting with powdered sugar for a snowy effect.
