Crockpot Mulled Wine

Crockpot Mulled Wine

Ingredients:

  • 1 (750ml) bottle red wine (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, or Zinfandel work well)

  • 1/4 cup bourbon (optional)

  • 1/4 cup honey or maple syrup (adjust to taste)

  • 2 cups apple cider

  • 1 orange, sliced

  • 3-4 cinnamon sticks

  • 5-6 whole cloves

  • 3-4 star anise (optional)

  • 1 teaspoon whole allspice (optional)

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • Cinnamon sticks for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Pour the wine and apple cider into the crockpot. Add the honey or maple syrup, sliced orange, cinnamon sticks, cloves, star anise, allspice, and vanilla extract.

  2. Set the crockpot to low heat. Cover and let the wine gently heat for 1-2 hours, stirring occasionally. Be careful not to let it boil, as boiling can cook off the alcohol and alter the flavor.

  3. About 15 minutes before serving, stir in the bourbon for an extra warming kick. You can also taste the wine at this point and adjust the sweetness by adding more honey or syrup if needed.

  4. Once the mulled wine is hot and fragrant, set the crockpot to "warm" and ladle the wine into mugs. Optionally, garnish with a cinnamon stick.

  5. Serve the mulled wine hot, and enjoy the cozy, spiced flavors!
